How to Achieve Glowing Skin with Microneedling

What do you think of when you hear the word “microneedling?” Or maybe the better question is: how do you feel when you think about microneedling? If you’re unsure what it means or perhaps feel intimidated or uncomfortable, please know that you are not alone. Many of our clients have shared the same reaction, and it’s understandable! Don’t let the name scare you, though; microneedling is an innovative skincare treatment that’s less about needles and more about nurturing your skin back to its youthful glow.

In actuality, microneedling is one of the modern skincare treatments that is revolutionizing the way we approach skin health. With its unique ability to rejuvenate and restore a radiant and youthful appearance, microneedling offers a fresh take on skincare that is as effective as it is approachable. We invite you to lean in with curiosity to this blog, in which we will dispel the uncertainty together to unveil the magic of microneedling for glowing skin.

The Magic — and the Science — behind Microneedling

Let’s begin by demystifying microneedling. In the simplest terms, microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries, triggering your body’s natural healing process. This process stimulates collagen production, a protein that keeps your skin looking firm, smooth, and youthful.

Although we think of it as a very modern treatment, the concept of microneedling has been around for centuries. While the first documented procedure wasn’t recorded until 1905, it’s believed that similar techniques were used in ancient times to promote healing and improve skin health.

Microneedling offers an interesting synergy between modern science and your body’s natural healing abilities; what we now know is that the process of controlled and intentional wound repair after a microneedling session consists of three stages:

Stage I, Inflammation: The act of piercing the skin sets off your immune response, leading to wound disinfection, debris removal, enhanced blood circulation, and the initiation of new tissue formation.

Stage II, Proliferation: The wound undergoes reconstruction with the creation of new granulation cells, which form part of the extracellular matrix. A fresh network of blood vessels also emerges.

Stage III: Remodeling: The wound undergoes substitution with newly formed dermal tissues and blood vessels.

Microneedling is a game-changer for those seeking to improve their skin’s appearance, and this healing process is exactly what leads to such beautiful results. It helps reduce the visibility of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, and can even improve the skin’s ability to absorb skincare products, making your daily routine more effective.

But, what is the experience itself like?

Breaking Down the Microneedling Experience

While it may be hard to wrap your mind around purposely creating thousands of micro-injuries in your skin, the procedure is far less intimidating than it sounds. You can listen to our founder, Carissa, explain it in this video, or keep reading for a description!

The actual microneedling session begins with a thorough cleansing of your skin using premium skincare products to prepare your skin for its renewal journey. This step is as relaxing as it is essential, setting the stage for the treatment to come.

Next, a numbing cream is applied and sits for about 15 minutes to ensure comfort, although the needles used are so small that they cause minimal discomfort. Many clients liken the sensation to being “scratchy,” sort of like a light sandpaper being moved across the skin. We cleanse your skin one more time before starting the SkinPen treatment (which is the first FDA-approved microneedling treatment).

Once the procedure is done, you might experience some redness, similar to a mild sunburn, but this usually subsides within a day or two. And the best part? You’ll start noticing improvements in your skin’s texture and tone within a week!

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and ages. However, it’s always best to consult with a professional before starting any new skincare treatment in order to receive personalized advice based on your skin type, concerns, and goals.

At Pure Aesthetics, we can combine microneedling with a mild chemical peel for faster cell turnover or with CooLifting for extra hyaluronic acid that helps with recovery time. Other popular combinations include microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) to promote cell regeneration and repair and microneedling with exosomes to help supercharge the creation of new collagen and elastin. Additionally, we are able to combine Radio Frequency technology with microneedling to stimulate even more collagen production.

In the world of skincare, microneedling is more than just a passing trend—it’s a testament to the power of innovative, science-backed treatments that work with your body’s natural strengths. With its ability to promote radiant, youthful-looking skin, microneedling offers a fresh and effective approach to skincare that can transform your skin and boost your confidence.

Remember, a glowing, youthful complexion isn’t just about looking good – it’s about feeling good, too. And with microneedling, achieving that radiant glow is more attainable than ever. So why wait?
